SIGNAL LOST
Cosmic horror in the register of literary fiction. February 2019, and the long fight after.

Cosmic horror in the register of literary fiction. The story begins on a Tuesday in February 2019 and follows one woman across the longest fight of her life. The early books stay small: a specific team in specific cities, working on a problem the rest of the world does not know exists. The later books open out as the cost gets real, and the world begins to change in ways no one can undo.
A door has been waiting three centuries for the right century to open it. The women who hold the line against what comes through it pay for the holding in person.

The Books
One arc told in movements across a span of years. Each book takes its own window of the same braided timeline. The early books stay small. The later books open out as the cost gets real and the team starts to lose people.
Years inside a world that looks almost normal, and the almost is the worst of it. What is left of the team assembles what the next phase will require, and begins preparing the people who may have to finish a fight that outlasts them.
The method for closing the door is recovered from an archive three centuries old. Getting it costs the team time, patience, and one of their own.
A long fight on many fronts, with no front line. The cost of a long war comes due, and the line between the people holding it and the thing they hold against gets harder to see.
Late in the fight, one mind goes all the way in and holds a door shut from the inside against something that has been trying to open it since long before any of them were born. An epilogue, after, in a quieter year.
Spoiler-light. Status reflects the working draft as of the last site build.
